My Mission
I aim to provide the best driving education possible. My mission is to ensure that every student becomes a safe and confident on the road.
We all want to be good at our jobs and work hard to achieve that. The five areas listed below allow me to reflect on my performance. I regularly ask myself, how am I doing? And is there anything I can do better?
Because......
1. Patience: A good driving instructor understands that learning to drive can be challenging and requires patience to guide a student through the process, allowing them to learn at their own pace.
2. Clear Communication: Effective communication will be essential for explaining the complex driving & traffic concepts in a clear and understandable manner, ensuring students grasp my instructions and hopefully eventually feel confident behind the wheel.
3. Adaptability: I would hope as an instructor I can adapt my teaching methods to suit your individual style and needs, tailoring my lessons to address specific areas and then giving personalised instructions.
4. Strong Interpersonal Skills: Building a rapport with you is crucial for creating a supportive and encouraging learning environment. As a good instructor I aim to listen actively and then provide constructive feedback.
5. Focus on Safety: Prioritising safety is paramount for a good driving instructor. I have to instil safe driving habits, emphasise risk management techniques, and ensure you develop the necessary skills to navigate various road conditions confidently.

As an older learner I was very nervous to start my lessons but Gary put me at ease straight away, he strikes the perfect balance of pushing you outside of your comfort zone but also not pushing you to far or too quickly. All progress is tracked and lessons are structured on what you would like to learn and progress with whilst also keeping in mind the end goal of passing your test. With Gary’s excellent teaching I was able to go from my first lesson to passing my test within seven months.

Couldn’t have asked for a better driving instructor. Gary is a great teacher and nothing was too much trouble for him. I looked forward to my lessons and always came home afterwards buzzing. His feedback was always constructive and I never felt like I was being told off even if I messed up. He has great knowledge of the road and always explained things in a way that was easy to understand. With his help i managed to move my test date forwards and pass first time. I couldn’t recommend Gary enough.

I had been trying to pass my driving test for over a year and even changed two driving instructors, but I still wasn’t ready for the final practical test. Eventually, I met my tutor Mr Gary from Bill Plant Driving School, he was very helpfull and after taking only 11 lessons with him, I passed my driving test on the first attempt.in March 2025. So, for me, Bill Plant Driving School deserves a 10 out of 10 review. I am forever grateful to Mr Gary, I will remember you for the rest of my life. Excellent Driving Instructor – Calm, Patient, and Clear
I couldn’t have asked for a better driving instructor. Gary has a calm and patient approach that instantly puts you at ease.
Gary broke things down in a way that was easy to understand and apply. I never felt rushed or pressured, and I always had the chance to ask questions and learn from my mistakes without any judgment.

If you are reading this, your search is over, Gary is the driving instructor you are looking for. It took me 10 years and 5 driving instructors to finish learning to drive, and Gary got me over the line in just over 3 months.
First, when you pick a driving instructor, it’s important to remember that you are going to spend many hours in close proximity with this person, and you are also going to have some difficult conversations / experiences along the way. You need an instructor that is going to make that time easier, more comfortable and more enjoyable – and Gary is great at that. He is chatty, friendly, and supportive, and he really helped me to relax in the car. He built my confidence and would tell me ‘You’ve got this’, ‘you are definitely going to pass’, ‘parking is your superpower’. At any moment he could have pulled out some pom poms and burst into a routine. Sadly, I don’t he saved all those lines just for me!
Second, he really knows his stuff, and he makes sure that you do to. He picked me up when I didn’t recognise signs or road markings that I should have, and he made sure I knew what they were. I had been learning on and off for ten years, and I’d never felt comfortable on roundabouts, this had persisted over many years and many instructors. When I expressed that anxiety about roundabouts and said that I unsure on how certain parts worked, Gary made sure I fixed it. We did twenty or more roundabouts until I was sure I was doing it perfectly and knew everything I should do in every situation. Even when I expressed fear of roundabouts later, the confidence building / cheerleading kicked in – ‘No reason to feel that way, you do them perfectly every time’, ‘you have roundabouts down’ and so on.
Third, it’s really hard to get tests at the moment and especially to line that up with when you are going to be ready to take it. We had a difficult conversation about my test, and I eventually moved it back a few weeks. Once I was happy to move it, Gary did it all, and he got me a test three weeks later. I was frustrated, but he was right. I was so much more ready after those three weeks. I may have passed on the first date, maybe, but I could DRIVE by the second. To me this difference mattered, I wanted to be fully safe, especially as I was going to be driving my 1-year-old son around.
Lastly, driving lessons are expensive, and Gary was early to every lesson I ever had with him, and I always got at least the full two hours. If value is important to you, you’ll be very glad you chose Gary.
In the end I passed, my first time with Gary, my third attempt overall. So, if you want someone who’s supportive, skilled, honest, and genuinely invested in you becoming a safe and confident driver, you have found the instructor for you.

I have had driving lessons with Gary for the last couple of months & I had my test today. I passed! 🎉 Gary had a lot of patience with me and helped me over come my fear of doing a driving test. Everything we done on lessons was based on how confident I felt, we went over and over things to help me gain my confidence. Gary was always praising me & helping me with driving lessons.
